ROWLAND

Barbara Ann “Bonnie"

Barbara Ann (Holman) Rowland died peacefully at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on Tuesday, July 26, 2016. Born in Birmingham, England on February 1, 1948, Barbara, or Bonnie as she was lovingly known to family and childhood friends, was the first daughter of parents Fred and Iris Holman. The family immigrated to Canada in 1952 and moved to Devon in 1955, where Barbara grew up. She married Allen Rowland in September 1968 and they spent the early years of their marriage living in Medicine Hat and Lethbridge, while Barbara completed nursing school and they started their family. After moving to Red Deer in 1975, Barbara worked at the Red Deer Regional Hospital and loved being a mom to her three children. Barbara felt much heartache at the loss of her son Dane in 1987, but she devoted herself to caring for others throughout her life. She retired in 2004 and spent the rest of her days actively pursuing her many hobbies and numerous volunteer roles. Barbara will be so dearly missed in so many ways, especially by her son Troy (Mariette) Rowland and Mariette’s children and grandchildren, her daughter Shantelle (Jonathan) Gervais and Jonathan’s son Jakub; brother Tony (Terry) Holman, sisters Sylvia (Jim) Steidel and Jennifer Holman; numerous nieces and nephews; her many in-laws; her extended family in England and Australia; and many many friends. She is pre-deceased by her son Dane, her husband Allen, her parents Fred and Iris Holman, and her sister Patricia. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Red Deer Cancer Center at the Red Deer Regional Hospital.

A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at 11 a.m. at St. Leonard’s on the Hill Anglican Church, 4241 44th Street, Red Deer, Alberta.
