NAULT

Dennis Martin

December 28, 1954 – September 14, 2016

It is with great sadness that the family of Dennis Martin Nault announces his passing from glioblastoma at the Red Deer Hospice on September 14, 2016, at the age of 61 years.

Dennis (Den) will be lovingly remembered by his wife of almost 40 years, Carol and his children, Lindsay Nault (Matthew Morigeau), and Kathleen (Clinton) Neufeld. Dennis will be dearly missed by his grandchildren, Holly and Felix Morigeau and be fondly remembered by his brother, Raymond (Dorraine) Nault; his sisters Penny (Bert) Grift, Wanita (Paul) Plouffe; and brother-in-law Tony Everett. Dennis was predeceased by his sisters Aprille Everett and Terry King.

Dennis was born in Winnipeg to Antoine and Jessie Nault. Dennis met his wife Carol at Churchill High School where they sang in choir together. Dennis earned two degrees, one BA in theatre at the University of Winnipeg in 1975 and another in physiotherapy at the University of Manitoba in 1983, where he earned the gold medal his graduating year. After his theatre degree, Dennis went to work as a line supervisor at a sheltered workshop in ARC industries in Winnipeg. It was working with people with disabilities that led him to want to go back to school to become a physiotherapist. In 1988, Dennis and Carol moved to Red Deer with their two daughters as Dennis was hired to run the physiotherapy department at Michener Centre. Dennis was passionate and dedicated to helping people with intellectual disabilities and worked in this field for over 28 years. He ended his career as the Director of Professional Services at Central Alberta PDD for the Government of Alberta.

Dennis loved to cook for his friends and family and was enthusiastic about living a healthy lifestyle while still enjoying delicious food. He loved to be outdoors and enjoyed cycling to work, running, and dancing in Jazzercise. Stemming from his start in choir and theatre, Dennis continued to be passionate about music, dance and the arts throughout his life. He chaired the Red Deer Arts Council Scholarship Committee and participated in the Red Deer Public Art Jury for multiple terms. Whether he was dancing to live music, attending the Winnipeg folk festival, or performing his mandolin or concertina in the local Red Deer group The Eclectics, Dennis’s sense of humour and “joie de vivre” could be seen by many in his community.

Those who desire to make donations in memory of Dennis may do so to the Red Deer Hospice, 99 Arnot Avenue, Red Deer, Alberta T4R 3S6, who provided the most loving care to him in the final months of his illness. Dennis’s family would also like to thank the Cross Cancer Institute and the U of A Hospital staff who also provided Dennis amazing care this last year.

A celebration of Dennis’ life will be held in February in honour of Dennis and Carol’s 40th wedding anniversary. Details for this event will be shared by the family at a later time.
